RYE, N.H. (July 18, 2012)—Coastal, maritime and marine science communities will benefit from federal funding of $2 million recently awarded to NERACOOS, the Northeastern Regional Association of Coastal Ocean Observing Systems.
The Future of Ocean Observing in the Northeast: Over the next few months, how you access ocean observing data in the Gulf of Maine will be changing. GoMOOS.org the website will be going away, but we are committed to continue bringing you the high quality data and services you depend on without interruption during the transition and beyond. As GoMOOS.org is retired, NERACOOS and The Gulf of Maine Research Institute (GMRI) will step up to provide a seamless service to users seeking data from the Gulf of Maine.
The US Integrated Ocean Observing System (IOOS) program recently awarded NERACOOS $1.77M in federal funding to help support all aspects of the organization including observations, modeling, program and data management, as well as education and outreach. The majority of the funds will go to our observing system partners to help maintain and operate the critical ocean observing system infrastructure that many rely on. This award is the first installment of funds from a 5-year award received by NERACOOS.
